Trap Hunters rely on Dex and Int to power up trap skills to kill enemies on at a time. Traps often become powerful enough at higher levels that you can one shot enemies such as Anolians for very quick leveling.
Traps do not rely on weapon attack, only the hunter’s stats. Weapons like an Arbalest which grants dex and has 2 slots available grants the hunter +4 dex when carded with 2x drops cards while still allowing the hunter to Double Strafe should they need an extra bit of damage to finish a target off or Arrow Shower a trap into a proper location.
In difficult areas where a shield may be better suited, a 4x drops knife could be used (if you require the dex on weapon to one shot) or a Fortune Sword for survivability along with a shield at the disadvantage so no longer being able to use bow skills.
Note: This skill build gets you the traps you will need, other points are mostly personal preference to what you want to do with your hunter (PvP/WoE/PvM).
- VIT or AGI: 60-80
- INT: 70-80
- DEX: 90-99 (dex is your primary damage increasing stat, you should max it!)
